GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park presents George Rickey: A Retrospective, on view through December 31, 2007. George Rickey is internationally regarded as among the most inventive and influential sculptors of the 20th century. His iconic kinetic works were the outgrowth of experiments with wire and metal that began during his service in World War II. Rickey's success is foundational to the kinetic art genre. His minimalist forms and carefully arranged compositions move effortlessly in response to air currents.

By the early 1970s his reputation was secured leading to commissions and exhibitions across Europe, North America and Asia. This retrospective exhibition is the first of its kind following Rickey's death, and will survey six decades of the artist's work. The exhibition features approximately 30 interior and 20 exterior works.

This exhibition is organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art in Florida, with generous support of The Henry Luce Foundation, Inc. and the George Rickey Foundation.
