London - Consisting of approximately forty works, Past, Present, Future has been curated specifically to illustrate the passing of time for a dealership now approaching its bicentennial; a gallery whose present operation is very much founded upon its past, but one which now has the opportunity to embrace an exciting and promising future. Past: Throughout its 200 year history, Frost & Reed has endeavored to source and offer its clients the very best Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works, with a particular emphasis on drawings and watercolors, as well as nineteenth and twentieth century British, French and Sporting paintings. Alongside such expertise, Frost & Reed has always taken a keen and active interest in specific living artists, with the aim of identifying the masters of the future. In the twentieth century alone, we enjoyed long and close associations with Sir Alfred Munnings, Sir William Russell Flint, Montague Dawson and Marcel Dyf, in all of whom the gallery obviously continues to offer unparalleled expertise. For several years, Frost & Reed has also acted as sole agents for Nigel Ashcroft, Edwin Penny and Peter Smith.
Present: Having founded its reputation in dealing in such artists’ work, today’s gallery is primarily still focused on the movements of those periods. Consequently in recognition of Frost & Reed’s specializations and long-standing artist rapports, Past, Present, Future includes a variety of nineteenth and twentieth century masters, including Eugène Boudin, Gustav Klimt, Raoul Dufy, Maurice Utrillo and Montague Dawson. Continuing with Frost & Reed’s search for and support of traditional contemporary painters, the exhibition also marks the first gallery appearances of Marcus Hodge and the young American artist, Colleen Barry.
Future: As a gallery that constantly seeks out tomorrow’s great artists, the exhibition also celebrates the launch of its new sister operation Frost & Reed Contemporary. A preview of select works by Emily Allchurch, Stefan Hoenerloh, Tim Simmons and Veronica Bailey will be on view in the new inner gallery space.
Exhibition dates 24 May to 7 July, 2006. Visit Frost & Reed at : http://www.artnet.com/gallery/408/frost--reed.html
