Myrtle Beach, SC - Enjoy a guided tour of the South Carolina Watermedia Society 31st Annual Exhibition at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum. The tour will be conducted by Bobbie Lawson, retired Coastal Carolina University art instructor, and is free and open to the public. More than 60 works – selected from 150 entries – from the prestigious juried exhibition are on display in Myrtle Beach for the first time in nearly a decade. The exhibition runs through the end of the year.
The Watermedia Society is the only statewide visual arts organization in SC to promote artists who work in watermedia, which include watercolor, acrylic, gouache, casein and mixed media in conjunction with watermedia. The group provides exhibition opportunities, professional development and educational programs.
The annual exhibition offers both new and established artists from around the state the opportunity to compete for prize money and to have their work featured in the Society’s traveling exhibition, under the supervision of the SC State Museum. These 30 award-winning pieces will visit art galleries and museums around the state.
The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum is a wholly nonprofit institution located across from Springmaid Pier at 3100 South Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are welcomed. Components of Museum programs are funded in part by support from the City of Myrtle Beach, the Horry County Council and the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
