    artwork: Liz Curtin Flow

New York City - Franklin 54 Gallery is pleased to present “Flow”, an exhibition of new found object sculptures by Liz Curtin.  Moving forward, the artist has created some amazing pieces from remains found on the street.  Her keen eye and incredible talent have come together to bring us some new faces and friends.  Curtin works with her collections of objects combining interesting elements of fragility and strength, always paying attention to detail.  On exhibit November 1st -30th, 2006.

The piece “Flow”, made of wood, vintage antique brass & lead balls and an old metallic spool of thread looks like a streamlined automotive machine stretching out over the surface.  Her simple wire figures create and play with the shadows on the wall they hang from.  As the title indicates, these works flow from not only within themselves, but also from one to another, becoming a cohesive group.  Though each one is its own entity and personality, they are like a family tied together in some unusual circumstances.  The show will also include new collage works (including tiny beauties) and paintings.  All together the “flow” continues in her work and her career, ever moving forward.

“My happiest moments are out on the street: foraging, discovering, and searching out “lost” objects to use in my sculpture.  Everywhere I go I find gems that most people consider garbage. They litter the gutter, hide under cars, lurk in abandoned doorways, get caught in dirt or shrubbery or are put out on garbage collection days.

Liz’s works are included in numerous private collections; she is currently included in the traveling show “Trashformations” with the Fuller Craft Museum. She has exhibited widely in solo and group shows in New York City and across the country.  The artist lives and works in New York City.
