Fari Shams with Music of Nathan Mills at Arndean Gallery

London - In her third UK solo exhibition, London artist Fari Shams collaborates with composer Nathan Mills to engage her audience in a two part exhibition exploring aspects of human perception.  Dialogues with the Music of Nathan Mills Part I, invited an audience to record their interaction with a series of six untitled paintings and accompanying music in the form of writing.  This collaboration between artist, musician and audience named each painting and created a framework for the final outcome of the second part of the exhibition.

Dialogues with the Music of Nathan Mills Part II, will present the audio, visual and verbal contents of Part I to an audience who will explore the impact of imagery and language on the perception of music.

By creating a series of works on paper, the artist investigates the verbal contents of Part I in an attempt to find the shared and distinct experiences of her collaborators.

Shams’ work to date has focused on the apparent symmetries between the building blocks of mathematics and music.  She is currently collaborating with Marcus du Sautoy, the Professor of Mathematics at Oxford on an installation looking at the distribution of prime numbers in the form of three dimensional sculptures.

In this latest body of work, Shams extends this relationship by using music to consider the constant filtration that takes place in the process of receiving information through sensory perception.

This exhibition promises to provide a new way of experiencing music and painting and will examine components of perception separately and in unity, and will challenge the audience to question their personal interpretation of reality.
