Cooper-Hewitt / National Design Museum to show ' House Proud '

New York City - This exhibition, at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, showcases Eugene V. and Clare E. Thaw’s collection of nineteenth-century watercolor drawings, which meticulously detail the era’s interior furnishings and document the social, cultural, and aesthetic development of European domestic life. The collection includes examples of English, German, Russian, Swiss, and Austrian domestic spaces. Selected objects from the Museum’s permanent collection will complement the drawings.
House Proud: Nineteenth-century Watercolor Interiors from the Thaw Collection is made possible in part by the Arthur Ross Foundation, the Esme Usdan Exhibition Endowment Fund, The Felicia Fund, Albert Hadley, Inc., Mr. and Mrs. Frederic A. Sharf, and the Fifth Floor Foundation. On view August 12, 2008–January 25, 2009 .
National Design Awards : The annual National Design Awards honor the year’s most outstanding contributions from the design world. The 2008 National Design Award finalists and Award recipients will be announced on May 8, 2008, followed by a panel discussion on May 13, 2008 with this year's Awards jurors, a diverse group of leading figures in the design field.
