The Columbus Museum Presents "Introductions" by Angela West

COLUMBUS, GA - This exhibition, at The Columbus Museum, is the third in the Introductions series, which presents work by emerging regional artists, features the large color photographs of Georgia artist Angela West. The Dahlonega native has focused her lens on her hometown in order to create several series, three of which will be highlighted: “Sweet Sixteen,” “Corsages,” and “Familiar Landscapes”.
Seeking to reveal the extraordinary among the ordinary, “Sweet Sixteen” presents revealing portraits of contemporary female adolescence, whereas “Corsages” consists of poetic, backlit images of prom corsages that West transforms into expressive still lifes. On View until March 4, 2007.In “Familiar Landscapes,” she depicts the grassy lawns and winding streets of her neighborhood as elegant, intriguing vistas. West’s work has begun to receive national attention and is included in the collections of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, Louisiana and the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C.
The Columbus Museum, 1251 Wynnton Road, Columbus, GA 31906, features exhibitions of American art and regional history and includes a hands-on discovery gallery for children. Admission is free.
