BREA, CA - The City of Brea Art Gallery presents its upcoming exhibition, The Media - Reactions, Reflections, and Comments on the Culture of Media, on display May 27 – July 13. The public is invited to attend the free opening reception on Saturday, May 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. featuring a performance by Cindy Shine. Incorporating a variety of artists and ideas, The Media will present a diverse view on the subject of the media – as a means of communication, its influence on society, its roll in politics, censorship and the media, etc.
As art itself is an early form of mass media, The Media uses art to engage the audience in a dialogue about contemporary society and the culture of media.
This exhibit will include art from the following artists: Jean Michele Basquiat, Keith Haring, Twinart, Chuck Feesago, Roni Feldman, Richard Hambleton, Bill Mauldin, Byron Spicer, Tom Benedek, Peter Tunney, Cindy Shine and Beth Gahan. Three Saturday Children’s workshops will be held in conjunction with this exhibit; My Magazine (June 2), TV Mania (June 16) and Collage with Newspaper (June 30). All workshops are from 12 – 1:30 p.m. and are for kids ages 6-12 to have an opportunity to create their own pieces of art. Each workshop is $10 per child.
