Sunday, 18 January 2009 22:07
Brooklyn, New York - Ch’i Contemporary Fine Art is delighted to present Ingenious Methodology, a group show exploring traditional and non-traditional forms of black and white and color photography using various media to express the photographic image. Opening Friday, February 13th from 6 – 9 PM for a public reception with the artists at the gallery’s Williamsburg location of 293 Grand Street between Roebling and Havemeyer. On exhibition 12 Febuary through 9 March, 2009.
Cesare Bedogne described his images as crystallization of psychic interior, precipitated into gelatine silver. The graphic corporeal images in Marita Contreras One Nation Under God series represent of the losses of freedom by the US government over the last few years resulting from the fear of terrorism. A native of Lima, Peru, Marita now lives and works in Florida. In her Shirley Shack series, Michel Demanche documents the natural relics left in the face of urbanization. Her manipulation of traditional black and white gelatin prints evokes the abandonment felt in these places. Gina Fuentes Walker’s photographic installations of organic images on clear glass respond to the surrounding light by capturing its resonance onto the contours of her objects. Owner of the 4th Street Photo Gallery in the Lower East Side, Alex Harsley has been exhibiting his black and white photographs of New York City dwellers for over 30 years. Referred to by some as feuillagsime, Chuck Kelton’s photograms bring out the sculptural quality of photography. While, Gerald Mocarsky’s intimate portraits of women putting on make-up in his War Paint series pay homage to the natural beauty inherent in the process of aging. Moreover, in her photographs of mementos and other ephemera Wanda Taylor Remington recalls associations between the viewer and childhood narratives. Whereas Reiner Weidmann’s psychological approach to photography manifests itself into portraits of the psyche.
In his Floater series, James Serkoch depicts family graves on the Eastern shore of Maryland illustrating the trompe l’oeil of natural settings. Moreover, a reverence of flora forms is poetically captured by Leslie Sheryll’s black and white images. The close up images of objects by Shelton Walsmith bear a resemblance to abstract barren landscapes. And in her color photographs O Zhang addresses the current socio-cultural climate between China - US relations.
