Rome, GA - Fine artist Charlotte Riley-Webb and sculptor Lucious Webb, of Atlanta, Georgia, will be exhibiting together for the first time. The Exhibition entitled “The Earth Moves on Key” will open August 22 through September 21, 2006, at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia. Charlotte, a Cleveland Institute of Art graduate who recently transitioned into abstract art after a successful thirty-year career of creating representational imagery, is a 2006 Pollack-Krasner Award recipient. Lucious, a sculptor and Howard University alumni, developed his art education with a focus on architecture, graphic design and sculpture, studying with renowned artists Lois Mailou Jones, David Driskell, and James Wells. Lucious’ love for natural materials was explored at the Tougaloo Art Colony in 2003 where he studied Twig Sculpture with California artist and teacher Gyongy Laky. Lucious was one of the primary artists at the grand opening of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery on July 1, 2006 in Washington, D.C. where he demonstrated his “twig sculpture” technique.
The couple is also known for their unique collaborations called “sculpted paintings”. They routinely collaborate on the design of the sculptures. Lucious then constructs the piece from exterior fir wood, and Charlotte completes the piece with the painting. The first of these “sculpted paintings - "Sounds of Perpetual Spring”- was an award winner. It earned the Hampton Virginia’s Art Commission Award of Excellence during a national juried competition. Hampton, Virginia citizens later voted and this work was given the Peoples Choice Award and purchased by the city. The sculptured painting became part of the city of Hampton’s permanent collection and is currently located in the concert district of downtown Hampton.
