Carole Robb ~ Walking Towards Venice ~ Works on Paper
Thursday, 12 February 2009 20:20
Johnson, VT - The Julian Scott Memorial Gallery at Johnson State College presents "Walking Towards Venice," an exhibition of works on paper by painter Carole Robb, on exhibition through March 14, 2009. There will be a reception and gallery talk on Thursday, February 12 at 3PM, during which the artist will describe her 2006 trip to Venice, Italy.
Over a two-week period, carrying little besides the clothes on her back, her watercolors and paper, Robb walked from Padua, following and painting the waters that led to Venice, where she arrived at midnight. Interacting with and urged on by the local residents she encountered along the way, Robb's journey and resulting images are a testament to an enchanted city in whose unlikely survival and existence we encounter the depth and rush of history, of time present and time past.
Carole Robb is Head of Atelier (Painting) at the New York Studio School, and has taught at the Slade School of Fine Art and the Royal College of Art in London, and at the American University, Rome. Robb has studios in Rome, Italy and in New York City, where she lives and works. Ms. Robb comes to Johnson State College as a visiting artist, and is represented by the Robert Steele Gallery, New York.
