Fresh Donuts ~ Work by Chris Held and Brendan Tang

Portland, OR - Fresh Donuts is an opportunity to acknowledge our place in time.  By showing impeccably crafted objects that are simultaneously full of playful irony and astute historical reference, we are drawn into a parallel universe were product design has an adversarial relationship with the consumer and our prejudices and vanity are gilt in gold.  Through this satirical lens we view our own existence; drawing parallels between the subverted objects and our own idiosyncratic social and cultural behaviors.

Both Chris Held and Brendan Tang employ satire to dissect social constructs and our relationship to consumer culture.  Curated by gallery director Josh Smith, Fresh Donuts is an attempt to re-examine that which we desire and our drive to acquire it.

Fresh Donuts will be on exhibit April 5-28, 2007 at Tilt Gallery and Project Space, 625 NW Everett, Suite 106, Portland, Oregon. A reception for the artist will be held on Thursday April 5 from 6-9pm.  Regular gallery hours are Fridays and Saturdays noon-5pm and by appointment.

Chris Held received his BFA from the Oregon College of Art and Craft in 2006.  His work has been featured in Oregon Home Magazine.  Held has exhibited locally at Design Within Reach and the Hoffman Gallery.
