Santa Ana, CA - The marble Guanyin statue hovers over its permanent spot in the Anne Shih garden of Bowers Museum’s Dorothy and Donald Kennedy Wing, due to open on Feb. 18, 2007. Guanyin is the most popular bodhisattva, or enlightened spirit, and perhaps the most revered figure in the Buddhist world. The name "Guanyin" is a short version of "Guanshiyin." “Guan” means contemplation, “Shi” means world, and “Yin” means sound. The name implies the great spiritual power of the Bodhisattva who contemplates the request of worshippers and saves them from suffering. The statue was graciously donated by Danny and Anne Shih. The Bowers Museum is located at the corner of 20th & Main Streets in Santa Ana - one minute from the 5 freeway, (Main St. South exit) and just minutes from the 57, 55 and 22 freeways. Bowers Museum, celebrating our 70th anniversary as Orange County’s leading cultural arts museum.
