MIAMI BEACH, FL – The ArtCenter/South Florida (“ACSF”) is rocking out with Post No Bills, A Rock Poster Show.  The exhibition premieres October 21 and runs through November 19, 2006 at the ACSF gallery, 800 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach.

Post No Bills showcases the work of Leia Bell, Nick Butcher, Charlie Calderin, Mat Daly, Yannick Desranleau, Dan Grzeca, Dirk Fowler, Jeff Kleinsmith, Jesse LeDoux, Chloe Lum, Dan MacAdam, Jeff Matz, Dan McCarthy, Tara McPherson, Jay Ryan, John Solomine, Thomas Scott, Diana Sudyka, Kristen Thiele and Steve Walters.

A majority of the artists participating in this show are featured in “The Art of Modern Rock” (2004) by Paul Grushkin and Dennis King, which chronicles the resurgence of interest in rock posters as an art form.  “The Art of Modern Rock” will be on sale at Books & Books (933 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach).

“In the last 20 years, there has been an explosion of activity in the rock poster genre.  The formally outmoded, traditional forms of printing -- especially silkscreen and letterpress, have been revitalized.  These are not just posters, they are limited edition hand-made pieces of art,” says exhibition curator and poster artist Kristen Thiele.

Originally developed as a commercial medium, screen printing, also known as serigraphy, involves the use of stencils to transfer a design.  Paint is applied to a silk or nylon screen thus penetrating areas of the screen not obscured by the stencil.  By using several stencils a number of colors may be employed in a single print.

According to Thiele, the rock poster culture never truly developed in Miami due to the small number of local and touring bands, a lack of a centralized area for the distribution and exhibition of posters and dearth of rock performance venues.  With a growing rock scene and new performance locations emerging, this exhibition comes at a time when momentum is building for a thriving fan base in Miami.  Post No Bills celebrates the art form by bringing more than 100 works from 18 artists in the United States and Canada to Miami Beach.
