    artwork: Annie Cantin Nebuleuse

Montréal (Québec) - Annie Cantin likes to make you smile. Her sculpture, inspired by organic forms, be they plant, animal, or even the stars above, is certainly playful; however, the thought behind it is anything but superficial. Inspired by nature's infinite variety of forms and colours, Annie Cantin leads us into her world of fantasy. Luminous buds all over the walls twinkle and reflect each other in a variety of installations that use mirrors, LED lights, and magnets, in a technically savvy bid to evoke the skies above her Laurentian home.

For over three months this spring and summer, Cantin's installations of this kind charmed the public and press at the Glass Museum in Sars-Poteries, the ancient porcelain making center in the north of France. The museum hosted a solo exhibition (with catalogue) to this rising star from Québec, and now some of the works from that show will be touring other European venues.

Cantin graduated in visual arts from the University of Québec in Montréal, and from Montréal's glass center 'Espace Verre'. Her works are already part of important collections like the d'Amours collection at the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts and the collection of Foreign Affairs Canada, which is spread across its various embassies world-wide.

Annie Cantin's work has been shown numerous times at the international SOFA shows (Sculpture Objects, Functional Art) in Chicago, New York, and West Palm Beach. She is one of our most original young artists. On exhibition 2 October through 25 October, 2007.

Galerie Elena Lee ventured into new territory over 30 years ago when she became the first gallery to exhibit contemporary Canadian glass art. Today, she has gained an international reputation for representing contemporary glass art. Keeping within a distinct aesthetic direction, the gallery has explored different avenues, exhibiting both Canadian and International artists—some working strictly in glass, others incorporating metal, wood and found materials. Today the gallery represents over 60 artists and artisans whose works evoke messages as diverse as the techniques used to create them.
