San Francisco, CA - Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce “Summer in South Park 2”, a three-person exhibition featuring emerging and mid-career artists Robert Burden, Marguerite Phillips and Luis Sanchez. This is the first show at Andrea Schwartz Gallery for each of the participating artists. On exhibition August 1 - September 6, 2007. Opening Reception: Wednesday, August 1, 2007, 5:30 - 7:30 PM

Robert Burden, a recent San Francisco Art Institute MFA graduate, paints epic “portraits” of small action figures that he played with as a child when they stood for power, righteousness and beauty. Finding a box of these figures as an adult, the toys did not live up to his memory. This body of work means to recreate the sense of awe and idealism lost over the years.

Like a contemporary impressionist, Marguerite Phillips captures instances of everyday life made special simply by being the object of a painting. The scenes may be a mundane routine task to a more dramatic human interaction. Her objective is to delve into this moment to witness the simple beauty of life and human existence.

Los Angeles painter Luis Sanchez’s trompe l’oeil style paintings depict a fantastical world of figures reminiscent of bygone carnival days, drawing inspiration from his artistic community. Using a combination of fresco and acrylics, Sanchez leads the viewer into mysterious and fascinating realms.
