Miami , FL - Alonso Art announces its upcoming exhibition, MOVING IMAGE: Video, Animation and Software Art, featuring works by Francis Acea, Alexandre Arrechea, Ramie Blatt and Claudio Castillo. On Exhibition 21 October - 25 November, 2006. MOVING IMAGE is a simple approach to an increasingly complex issue; how to define the ever changing realm of Video Art. Some of the works in this exhibition, such as the ones by Alexandre Arrechea and Francis Acea, would easily fall into the traditional concept of Video Art; the work of Claudio Castillo, instead, would rather belong to the realm of Digital Animation and that of Ramie Blatt, as he him-self defines it, falls under the Software Art category. Given so many different technological approaches, the use and exploration of images in movement becomes the common thread that brings cohesion to this disparate body of work. Francis Acea (Cuba, 1967) began producing a whole new series of works after separating from the collaborative artist group Ordo Amoris Cabinet in 2003. In “Superman (The Way We Were)” he elaborates on a subject matter dear to him: Icons. However, there is a big gap between the Graphic Icons on which he has been working of late and the Social and Cultural Icon that is the subject matter of his Video Art piece on the exhibition. By taking out of its intended narrative a fragment of Superman, The Movie and by mixing its background sound with Barbra Streisand’s The Way We Were, the Artist creates a subversive, thought-provoking video loop that puts in question many preconceived ideas about courage, power and heroism, thus becoming an incisive comment on the ideals that conform today’s American identity.
