Beaumont, TX - " Things with Wings: Selections from the Permanent Collection " is curated by AMSET Executive Director Lynn Castle. It explores how artists use things with wings in their works of art. Although this gallery has the most concentrated collection, things with wings are on view throughout the museum. On exhibition through 5th October, 2008 at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas.

artwork: Keith Carter, Sleeping Swan 1995, Gelatin silver print, 15 x 15 inches.Objects are exhibited in relational groups in this exhibit. It explores various relationships in art and how relative works of art interact. Things with Wings invites viewers to look at art and think about it from an alternative point of view; the commonalities and differences of subjects with wings.  Things with Wings is subdivided into six categories: the bird as the central subject, birds with people, the crow, winged creatures in decorative arts, birds in Surrealism and winged things as metaphors.

“This has been a fascinating show to organize while examining how artists use things with wings in their works of art and what it means,” said Castle. “It is extremely interesting how many pieces in our permanent collection feature these winged things. I know visitors will enjoy it, as well.”

Things with Wings also inspired the theme of AMSET’s Family Arts Day. The FREE event will included many exciting hands-on art activities and entertainment relating to the artwork featured in the exhibit.

These exhibitions are funded by the City of Beaumont through the Southeast Texas Arts Council, the C. Homer and Edith Fuller Chambers Charitable Foundation, and the C.W. and Dorothy Anne Conn Fund of Communities Foundation of Texas.
