Hollywood, CA.- The Barnsdall Art Park is pleased to announce two exhibitions, "Nazim M. Nazim: Power Animals" and "Michael Todd: Bronze and Steel", both on view until October 1st. Both exhibits are curated by Jeff Phillips of The Art Art Project and feature new works by these contemporary artists. The exhibits celebrate of both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art creation, featuring the masterly painting skills and content of the work of Nazim M. Nazim, and the exuberance and epic-scale of Michael Todd’s most recent sculptures.
Nazim M. Nazim is a contemporary fine artist using traditional working methods to create art. Drawing and painting are the fundamental elements to the realization of his artistic vision, inspired by an array of themes that vary according to the temperament and compulsion to create the artwork. Myth, mysticism and metaphysics resonate within the subject matter, exploring the visual harmonics which the artist may observe or imagine. In the sculpture garden are works featuring “Bronze and Steel”, contemporary works of Michael Todd, in which there is a strong Asian influence from Japanese Zen and Chinese calligraphy, as well as a clear debt to Arshile Gorky and the abstract expressionists, Franz Kline and Willem de Kooning. Todd tries to humanize geometry and minimalism to give it emotional weight. His circular pieces are like echoes of the cosmos. They represent the expanding universe and chaos, the Ying and the Yang. The Art Art Project curator Jeff Phillips (a Cal Arts Alumnus) also curates the Sculpture Plaza at the Warner Center in Woodland Hills, featuring some of California’s leading sculpture artists which has included in past exhibitions Betty Gold, Bret Price, Peter Shire, Kristan Marvell, and John Gilbert Lebtow.
