No other group of artists has so polarized the contemporary art world in recent years. Street artists are loved and hated, tolerated and excluded, yet no one can deny the impact they have had on art in the 21st century. The success of artists such as Banksy and Shepard Fairey has transformed what was once a small underground movement into mainstream popular culture. "Playing Field" brings together a selection of important works from the past 10 years, many of which have never before been exhibited in Los Angeles.

Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art is fast gaining recognition as one of the major exhibitors of emerging international contemporary art on the US West Coast. After several years of organizing shows and private events, co-curators Seth and Elisa Carmichael opened Carmichael Gallery as a fresh alternative voice on the Los Angeles gallery scene. In just over one year they have established themselves as a major gallery with a global collector base.

Artists who have showcased their work at the LA–based gallery are becoming widely recognized by the art world establishment with institutions such as the Tate Modern as well as Christie’s, Phillips Du Pury, and Bonhams auction houses supporting their careers. Artists are beginning to view shows at Carmichael Gallery as a rite of passage and an integral part of future successes in New York, London, and around the world – and collectors are taking notice. Founded in 2007 by husband and wife team Seth and Elisa Carmichael, Carmichael Gallery focuses on a select group of artists breaking ground in painting, mixed media, photography and sculpture. Their annual program comprises a series of solo and group exhibitions that document the progress of these artists. Visit the gallery's website at ... www.carmichaelgallery.com
