MUNSTER, GERMANY - It will be a time to celebrate at the Pablo Picasso Graphics Museum in Münster in 2010. Germany’s only Picasso Museum will be ten years old. To mark the event, the Museum will be presenting three huge special exhibitions, on Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso and Paul Klee. The exhibition 'Joan Miro - Die Farbe seiner Traeume' (Joan Miro - The color of his dreams), running from 05 March to 06 June, 2010
With about 800 of Pablo Picasso's lithographs, the Münster
museum has one of the largest collections of Picasso's graphic art in the world.
Since it opened in the year 2000, the museum has expanded its unique collection
to include many prominent additions, among them works by Marc Chagall, Georges
Braque and Henri Matisse. Thus works by other classical modernist artists
besides Picasso have long been an inherent part of the exhibition programme.
Anniversary exhibitions on Miró, Picasso and Klee
"We are celebrating our first major anniverfsary with not one but three exceptional artists“, says Markus Müller, Director of the Pablo Picasso Graphics Museum in Münster. We start with the special exhibition "Joan Miró - The Colour of his Dreams". "With about a hundred works from the Maeght collection from France, the show takes us through all phases of the work of the famous Catalan artist.” The many paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures reflect Miró’s typical, colourful pictorial universe and his great technical variety and versatility.
The big anniversary exhibition “Pablo Picasso – In the Artist’s Studio” will open at the end of August, coinciding with the date of the anniversary. The Museum will deal exhaustively with the studio theme in Picasso’s work in that show. The artist used the subject of the studio picture over and over to reflect on his art and to make programmatic statements in picture form. With the aid of numerous international loans of art works, including paintings, sculptures and prints, the exhibition examines the extent to which Picasso falls back on historical reference themes to articulate his own artistic self-image or break it down with irony (28 August-21 November 2010).
The Graphics Museum will end its anniversary year with an exhibition dealing with Paul Klee. Using works on loan from the Zentrum Paul Klee in Berne, the show provides an overview of the graphic work of the artist (28 November 2010-February 2011).
