New York, NY - India based artist Hindol presents new large scale multimedia paintings depicting portraits of influential artists from times past. Hindol’s “painterly installations” are incisive commentaries of perception and experience. Famous artists throughout history depicted in speculative portraits are reduce to their vulnerable cores suggesting a critique on how a glorious past has become a “product” of contemporary time. Meditative yet visually dramatic, images all to the unpredictable confluence of torched wood, etched text on plexiglass and skillfully rendered oil on canvases that only an innovative artist can produce. On view through 24 July.
With an impressively broad artistic range and vast visual vocabulary, Hindol captures the audience’s attention through a visually striking approach to story telling by distilling complex processes to their essential elements. Ten large, contemplative works created in a unique and personal idiom reveal an acute awareness towards pushing Mediatic Realism to the next level. As Jhony ML suggets, “Hindol grew up in the contemporary scene where Mediatic Realism as a genre was spreading like a virus amongst the Indian artists. Though Hindol also subscribed to the mediatized images for developing pictorial debates, he soon realized how the same images could be used creatively with different techniques to create a unique, personal idiom”.
His unique, painterly style constructs iconic imagery that can bring together in one frame, not only different times and spaces, but also elements from different cultures which have nothing in common with each other. To express this incongruity and chaos is actually an aim and significant formal device used in his storytelling. To achieve this expression, the artist takes inspiration from Renaissance art, pop culture and Asian pictorial traditions into his paintings, giving viewers a new understanding of contemporary life and times.
Born in Gujarat, India, Hindol Brahmbhatt studied at the Baroda School of Art. The artist had numerous national exhibitions. This is Mr. Brahmbhatt’s first solo exhibition in North America. He lives and works in Ahmedabad, India. Hidol focuses on creating a parallel between contemporary life and the silent moments of history.
