Written by Steven Maklansky Friday, 20 May 2011 21:45
MELBOURNE , FL - An opening reception for Mildred Richardson-Life and Thoughtful Art held Saturday, October 3 at 4:00 p.m. celebrates the painter and teacher with more than 40 years invested in Brevard's art community. Mildred's loose brushstrokes and lush use of color distinguishes her work of landscapes, still lifes, and portraits. An avid sketcher, Mildred's sketchbooks are filled with drawings from her observations and travels; quick, linear notations capture a person or a place.
Mildred
studied at the Chicago Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois and has won numerous awards. Her
work is in the permanent collections of Harris Corporation, First Florida
Bank, The Brevard Art Museum, Harbor Junior College in San Pedro, CA and in two
Supervisor of Election offices. This exhibition is part of the Museum's C.A.R.E
(Community Artist Recognition Exhibition) series. This exhibition sponsored in part by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency in partnership with the Florida Department of the State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture and by Mark and Shirley Baccus, Pat and Jack Pruitt, Jr., Marlin and Nell Gehrke, and Scott and Kim Glover.
On view through October 25, 2009. In addition, a new series of programs called The Conversation Series debuts on Monday, October 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Museum galleries. The first topic will be Art, Aging, and Creativity. Moderator Steven Maklansky, the Museum's president, will guide special guest speakers and the audience through a thoughtful discussion on a topic of interest to many people of Brevard.
