The Tarble Arts Center presents 2009 Art Faculty Exhibition

CHARLESTON , ILL - The Eastern Illinois University 2009 Art Faculty Exhibition will be celebrated with a reception on Thursday, September 10, 5pm-7pm, at the Tarble Arts Center. Everyone is invited to meet and talk with the artists. Entertainment at the reception will be provided by the Staff Blues Band. The band is made up of EIU students including Art student Sean Walker. Refreshments will be served and admission is free. The exhibition will remain on view through October 18th, 2009 .
Making up this year’s Art Faculty Exhibition are recent works by
members of the studio faculty: Jeff
Boshart – metal sculpture, some made of recycled materials; Suzan Braun – loom
weavings, Ke-hsin Jenny Chi – traditional paintings and a drawing; Ann
Coddington Rast – fibers installations and a fiber sculpture; David Griffin –
vessels made of wood and metal; Robert Horvath – abstract digital prints; Bill
Hubschmitt – digital prints, including abstracts, landscapes, and portraits;
Chris Kahler – abstract paintings; Mary Leonard-Cravens – computer animated
graphics and a website design; Dwain Naragon – ceramic vessels; Chuck Nivens –
graphic design; Denise Rehm-Mott – representational drawings and intaglio
prints; and David Richardson – video and computer animated
graphics.From adjunct faculty are photographs by Dorothy Bennett and art quilts by Jamie Willis. Participating emeritus Art faculty are Hannah Eads – photographs, and Bill Heyduck – ceramics.
The Staff Blues Band is vocalist/rhythm guitarist Sean Walker, bass trombonist Pond-Jones, tenor saxophone player Mike Block, lead guitarist Chris Hastings, keyboardist Dan Hoffman, drummer Jamie Mauck, bassist Wally Ulrich and trumpet player Nick Grill. Their musical influences include James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, John Coltrane and many others. The Staff Blues Band won EIU’s 2008 Verge/University Board Battle of the Bands and was the opening act for Pantherstock last May.
This program is co-sponsored with the EIU Art Department. The Tarble Arts Center and the Art Department are divisions of the Eastern Illinois University College of Arts & Humanities. Tarble programs are funded by the Tarble Arts Center Fund/EIU Foundation, Tarble Arts Center membership contributions, and other sponsors as announced.
The Tarble maintains a one-thousand piece permanent collection, including a 500 piece collection of late 20th century Illinois folk arts and related archival information. Intended as a teaching collection, holdings are concentrated on art from Illinois and the region. Also included are select examples of art from other cultures and historical periods in various media.
The Tarble is located on 9th Street at Cleveland Avenue on the EIU campus in Charleston. Open hours are 10am-5pm Tues. – Fri., 10am-4pm Sat., and 1-4pm Sun.; closed Mondays and holidays.
