Melbourne, AU - Thanks to all the avid fans and supporters that made Star Trek such a hit first time around on the World's (3rd) Largest Screen. STAR TREK has become a stunning movie event in IMAX and a MUST SEE for anyone wanting a true cinematic experience - if you haven't seen it here don't miss it this time! Starting at the Melbourne Museum on 17 September, 2009.
The greatest adventure of all time begins with STAR TREK, the incredible story of a young crew's maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S Enterprise. On a journey filled with action, comedy and cosmic peril, the new recruits must find a way to stop an evil being whose mission of vengence threatens all of mankind.
In STAR TREK: The IMAX Experience the fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of bitter rivals. One, James Kirk (Chris Pine), is a delinquent, thrill seeking Iowa farm boy. The other, Spock (Zachary Quinto), was raised in a logic based society that rejects all emotion. As fiery instinct clashes with calm reason, their unlikely but powerful partnership is the only thing capable of leading their crew through unimaginable danger, boldly going where no one has gone before.
HISTORY OF IMAX
The IMAX system has its roots in EXPO ‘67 in Montreal, Canada where multi-screen films were the hit of the fair. A small group of Canadian filmmakers/entrepreneurs who had made some of those popular films, decided to design a new system using a single, powerful projector, rather than the cumbersome multiple projectors used at that time. The result: the IMAX motion picture projection system, which would revolutionize giant-screen cinema.IMAX technology premiered at the Fuji Pavilion, EXPO ‘70 in Osaka, Japan. The first permanent IMAX projection system was installed at Ontario Place’s Cinesphere in Toronto in 1971. IMAX Dome (OMNIMAX) debuted at the Reuben H. Fleet Space Theatre in San Diego in 1973
