The Katherine Cone Gallery Exhibits New Works by Sean Cheetham

Los Angeles, California.- The Katherine Cone Gallery is pleased to present "Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams" on view at the gallery from February 11th through March 10th. There was an opening reception on Saturday, February 11th from 6-9 pm. "Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams" is a solo exhibition of new works by artist Sean Cheetham. “Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams,” an ostentatious way of wishing some one the best in life, is an ironic, yet perfect title for Cheetham!s new series of classical, but edgy paintings of the figure. He is a skilled and accomplished draftsman, and his painting approach pays homage to academic painting traditions.

His portraits are striking and are direct portrayals of his subjects, some with a hint of dark humor. Cheetham's self-portrait displaying a fresh black eye is a reminder of the harsh realties we live in, while waiting for that glimmer of hope. Using the human body as a source of imagination, Cheetham is able to add spirituality and depth to his paintings, the end result is an imagined field upon which projections of the soul occur. Many of his subjects are of lone women wearing elaborate outfits that reveal an abstract level in the details. The new series displays new techniques, as well, such as adding hints of gold in the paintings. By doing this, Cheetham creates a haunting richness, thus adding a touch of a champagne wish and a caviar dream.
