The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art Celebrates Wolf Family Art Donations

Johnstown, PA. The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Johnstown is pleased to announce its latest exhibition, "A Celebration of the Wolf Family Donations to the Permanent Collection, 1986-2006". The exhibition features some of the SAMA Permanent Collection’s benchmark works, donated by one of the Museum’s most benevolent family patrons. On view until August 26th, the exhibition includes more than 40 works in media such as painting, lithography, folk art, drawing and photography.

When the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art first opened its doors in 1976, it did so with a collection numbering 47 paintings, sculptures and drawings and a collection of 20 etchings by John Sloan. Since that time, the Museum’s permanent collection has grown to number nearly 4,000 works of art. Thanks to generous donors and patrons such as the Wolf family, the collection now features a bounty of works by many of the nation’s most innovative and influential artists. Many of those artists, such as Andy Warhol, Norman Rockwell and Grant Wood, will be featured in A Celebration of the Wolf Family Donations to the Permanent Collection. Also included will be artists Alice Neel, David Hockney,  Alexander Calder, George Bellows, and Rockwell Kent, among others. The Wolf family also has made a significant number of contributions of works by local and regional artists.

Many of those works, by artists including Kevin Kutz, Joe Servello, and Jory Albright, also will be on display. “We are honored to exhibit selections from the Wolf Family’s donations to the permanent collection,” said SAMA-Johnstown Coordinator, Tina Lehman. “This collection is an important part of our permanent collection and features many of our finest works, and is the perfect exhibition for our 35th anniversary. The exhibition will feature local artists such as Kevin Kutz and Jory Albright, as well as world-renowned artists like Norman Rockwell and Andy Warhol. There is something here for everyone to see, so don’t miss your chance to come and visit.”
