1. The Art Antiques London Fair Comes to Kensington Gardens in June

    London.- From June 9th until June 15th, the Art Antiques London fair will be held at Kensington Gardens, offering a dazzling array of works, from the ancient to the contemporary and a true “collectors” experience. Art Antiques London has been very successful in recruiting overseas dealers. Amongst those who will be taking part for the first time this year are Erik Thomsen Asian Art, New York, who specializes in Japanese screens and scrolls, early Japanese tea ceramics from the medieval through the Edo periods, masterpieces of ikebana bamboo baskets and gold lacquer objects.


    Also exhibiting is Tai Gallery, specialists in textiles, bamboo art and contemporary photography from Santa Fe, New Mexico. From Europe, the Fair is looking forward to welcoming Dusseldorf dealer Esch Kunsthandel, a renowned expert in 18th-century ceramics, silver, rare furniture and Gothic sculpture, and Granocchia Fine Art from Cortina D’Ampezzo who will be bringing a selection of antique and signed 20th-century fine jewelry. Among the new UK dealers participating in the 2011 Fair include Asian art dealer Michael Goedhuis, silver specialist Peter Cameron, works of art dealer Ted Few, coin and medals expert Timothy Millet, paintings specialist Mark Mitchell and antique furniture dealer Brian Rolleston Ltd.

    Reflecting the international nature of the Fair, returning dealers include European porcelain and glass dealers Dragesco Cramoisan, porcelain expert Christophe Perles and Voltaire Antiquité, Vandermeersch SA, all from Paris; textiles and fine art dealer Jane Kahan from New York, Lukacs & Donath Anitchita, the ceramics, glass and enamels specialists from Rome, and Daniela Kumpf Kunsthandel from Weisbaden who specializes in German ceramics. They will join UK specialists MacConnal-Mason (fine art), William Agnew & Co Ltd (sculpture and works of art), Stephen Ongpin and Guy Peppiatt (drawings), Adrian Sassoon (ceramics), Holly Johnson (furniture) and Sandra Cronan Ltd (jewelry), Susan Ollemans and Samina Inc. (Indian jewelry). Seventy two top art and antiques dealers from around the world will again at Art Antiques London for its second run, June 9-15 in the historic site of the Great Exhibition of 1851 in Kensington Gardens. The Fair which incorporates renowned International Ceramics 2010 to wide acclaim, winning praise, in particular, for its central location, light and airy atmosphere and stylish presentation. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Haughton International Fairs which began in London with the International Ceramics Fair and Seminar in 1982. An important fixture in the London ‘Summer Season’, The Ceramics Fair was the launch pad for the Haughton’s international Fairs which have consistently taken their place at the very top of the trade. The Fairs are world renowned for their presentation, exacting standards, and for a seamless integration of the worlds of commerce and academia

    This year the First Night Party will be in support of Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB) which was founded in 1955 as the UK Branch of the International Social Service global network of over 130 national agencies who work to promote and protect the rights and welfare of children across international borders. They identify and protect children who have been separated from family members as a consequence of conflict, trafficking, abduction, imprisonment and asylum, and seek to ensure that children are reunited with those who can love and care for them best, their family. The First Night Party will take place on the 8 June and will take the form of a cocktail party followed by a dinner.

    Art Antiques London 2010 was praised by both academics and collectors for the varied and interesting series of lectures that took place during the Fair. Some of the highlights of this year’s lecture programme include Dr Ekaterina Khmelnitskaya, the curator of Russian Porcelain at The State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, who will lecture on “The glamorous age of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna”; Jacqui Pearce, FSA MIFA, of the Museum of London on “Recent archaeological finds from London”; Julia Weber of the Bavarian National Museum, Munich presenting “A Detective Story: Meissen Porcelains copying East Asian models: Fakes or Originals in their own right?”;   Kate Malone, ceramic artist, on contemporary ceramics:  “Sauce or Source.” Art Antiques London is delighted to again be working in partnership with The Hermitage Foundation UK, Waddesdon Manor and The Dorchester Hotel.  This year the Waddesdon Masterclass will continue its partnership with Art Antiques London by offering Masterclass participants a chance to preview the fair free of charge in the company of Waddesdon curators before it opens to the public, and a lucky fair visitor will win a highly-coveted place on the 2012 Masterclass.
