    Rio de Janeiro.- From September 8th through September 11th, all the lights will be focused on Rio de Janeiro. More precisely in the port zone, where the first edition of ArtRio - the Rio de Janeiro International Art Fair will take place. The event will contribute to the art sector, the economy and the country's tourism with the participation of 80 well known art galleries – national and international. Created by Elisangela Valadares and Brenda Valansi Osorio, partners at the agency Bex Feiras e Eventos Culturais, ArtRio starts already big. Due to the good moment of the Brazilian economy, important international galleries confirmed its participation. Among them is the Australian Tristian Koenig, presenting for the first time works from John Kleckner and Riccardo Crespi, from Milan, bringing Libia Castro & Ólafur Ólafsson – the duo represented Iceland at the Venice Bienalle Art Festival.


    "We want to include Rio de Janeiro in the international art market and develop a cultural exchange, making ArtRio an important event to Brazilian galleries and also galleries from other countries" say the partners Brenda and Elisangela. ArtRio will happen in two pavilions on Píer Mauá as well as in an external area. From Rio de Janeiro the galleries A Gentil Carioca, Anita Schwartz, Silvia Cintra + Box 4, HAP, Mercedez Viegas, Pinakotheke, and others will be present. From São Paulo, galleries Vermelho, Mendes Wood and Marília Razuk are confirmed. The city of Belo Horizonte will be represented by galleries Quadrum, Lemos de Sá, AM and Celma Albuquerque; and Recife will be represented by Amparo Sessenta gallery. Among international galleries that will be present, Mario Sequeira, from Portugal; Crone, from Germany; Bendana-Pinel Art Contemporain, from France; and Horrach Moya, from Spain. More than 40 galleries from abroad will be participating in the event.

    The event is expecting to attract around 20 thousand visitors, comprising art collectors, marchands, journalists and art lovers. They will have the chance to see and also buy different formats of modern and contemporary art, including painting, sculptures, installations, photography and video. One of the fair highlights will be the Solo Projects, coordinated by Julieta Gonzalez and Pablo Leon de La Barra - an area especially built to exhibit works of a selected team of 15 international artists chosen by the duo. Co-curator of Latin American Art of the Tate Modern, from London, Julieta is one of the great names of the art segment nowadays, with projects developed for the Alejandro Otero Museum, in Caracas, and Whitney Museum, New York. Pablo Leon is a gallery owner, architect, editor, Art consultant and one of the most important persons of the Art market in London.
