The Lanning Gallery Autumn Show Features Works by Randi Solin & Jonathan Harris

Sedona, Arizona.- The special autumn exhibition this year at Lanning Gallery features Randi Solin and Johnathan Harris and opens with an artists’ reception during Sedona’s “1st Friday Gallery Tour” event November 4, from 5-8 pm. The exhibition “Colorations” brings together Solin’s hand-blown studio glass vessels with Harris’s acrylic landscape paintings. "Colorations" will be on view at the gallery from November 4th through November 30th. The element of color that defines both artists’ work is rich beyond measure.

Solin uses glass in all particle sizes – powder, cane, frit and rod – to build layer upon layer of color into the painterly compositions of her glass vessels. Her technical skills and imaginative coloration style has led to innumerable Best in Show and Best in Class awards; she has pieces in the permanent collections of The White House, The United States Embassies in Algeria and Guinea and several U.S. museums. Solin notes that, “My optics serve as the window into my coloration process – into the soul of a piece – allowing a viewer to peer into its life, like the rings of a tree.” A trademark of Solin’s work is the clean cut across the top of each piece, allowing one to clearly see every layer within.


Harris paints landscapes from dark to light, leaving subtle dark borders around lighter forms. This is a technique that impacts the artist’s light and color; it captures a vibrant immediacy in his interaction with nature and translates that immediacy to the viewer. Whether it is a field of bobbing sunflowers under deep lavender clouds or the golden autumn colors of an aspen wood, Harris pushes reality just enough to capture a heightened life force on each canvas. With the gallery’s 25th anniversary celebration coming next month, this year’s autumn exhibit promises to be special. Both out-of-state artists are coming to Sedona for the exhibition’s opening reception and it is an excellent opportunity to meet both of them, hear more about their fascinating techniques and their unique inspirations.
